Affordable? Victoria actually had wholesale power prices hit $14,500 per megawatt hour – when prices used to average less than $40.
Sustainable? Wind power generators on Thursday delivered a feeble 3.8 per cent of the state’s power, thanks to fickle winds. They could not deliver when needed most.
Reliable? Victoria – which helped drive the giant Hazelwood coal-fired generator out of business – ran short of electricity in the heat wave, and suffered blackouts that hit 200,000 homes and premises, even after it ordered big power users like the Portland smelter to shut down.
Why does Victoria, sitting on hundreds of years of supply of coal and big gas reserves, have an electricity system that can no longer deliver enough electricity?
Why? Because it bought the great global warming scare, and spent billions on unreliable green power instead of on a steady generator that would pump out all the power we need – and when we need it. It made coal-fired generators unprofitable, and told vast untruths about the great future of green power.
And for what? For pure symbolism. No cuts Australia makes to emissions will affect global warming, which has turned out to be nothing like the catastrophe that was predicted.
Global warming politicians are causing far more damage than global warming is every likely to. Yet who dares call them out?

Meteorologists and historians believe that this weekend’s baptism by snow could actually have been the coldest snowstorm experienced by Montrealers in a century, reads a montreal.ctvnews.caarticle from Jan 20.
Sunday’s high held below -15C all day and snow accumulation was expected to exceed 25cm.
According to the Twitter account YUL Weather Records, the last time Montreal experienced a similar snowstorm was Jan 16, 1920. On that day, a total of 30.2 cm of snow fell, and the daytime high reached -19.4C.
By 3pm on Sunday it was already Montreal’s 2nd snowiest Jan 20th since records began in 1872:

A recently published NYTimes article desperately tries to explain-away the brutal cold gripping the Northern Hemisphere this winter with a painfully stupid, logic-lacking argument.
According to the article, we can expect further disruptions to the polar vortex due to Global Warming. Yes, that’s right, a complete tune-change, but Global Warming now means more record snow and cold during the winter.
The Polar Vortex used to be evidence that a new ice age is setting in. Now apparently it is evidence that the Earth is burning up, writes Steve Goddard on his website realclimatescience.com.
I can hear it being cited during many a heated family debate — the AGW alarmists new ace-in-the-hole to explain away the encroaching Grand Solar Minimum.

And it has nothing to do with increasing CO2 heating the planet, it’s all the result of our sun beginning its latest shut down (relatively) which past cycles suggest is due.
WHAT THE SCIENCE SUGGESTS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING
Research (linked below) shows blocking persistence increases when solar activity is low, causing weather patterns to become locked in place at high and intermediate latitudes for prolonged periods of time.
During a solar minimum, the jet stream’s usual Zonal Flow (a west–east direction) reverts to more of a Meridional Flow (a north-south direction) — this is exaggerated further during a Grand Solar Minimum, like the one we’re likely entering now, and explains why regions become unseasonably hot or cold and others unusually dry or rainy, with the extremes lasting for an extended period of time.
Mikhaël Schwander, et al, 2017 — “The 247-year-long analysis of the 11-year solar cycle impact on late winter European weather patterns suggests a reduction in the occurrence of westerly flow types linked to a reduced mean zonal flow under low solar activity. Based on this observational evidence, we estimate the probability to have cold conditions in winter over Europe to be higher under low solar activity than under high activity.”

FOR the purpose of this post, we’ll look at the untampered UAH (University Alabama Huntsville) satellite data set run byDr. John R. Christy – Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science and Director of the Earth System Science Center at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, and Roy Spencer Ph.D. – Principal Research Scientist at UAH.
SPENCER comments on the divergence between RSS and UAH post “adjustment”:
“We have a paper in peer review with extensive satellite dataset comparisons to many balloon datasets and reanalyses. These show that RSS diverges from these and from UAH, showing more warming than the other datasets between 1990 and 2002 – a key period with two older MSU sensors both of which showed signs of spurious warming not yet addressed by RSS. I suspect the next chapter in this saga is that the remaining radiosonde datasets that still do not show substantial warming will be the next to be “adjusted” upward.
The bottom line is that we still trust our methodology. But no satellite dataset is perfect, there are uncertainties in all of the adjustments, as well as legitimate differences of opinion regarding how they should be handled.
Also, as mentioned at the outset, both RSS and UAH lower tropospheric trends are considerably below the average trends from the climate models.

You have to go back to 1982-84 for the next biggest two-year drop, 0.47°C—also during the global warming era. All the data in this essay come from GISTEMP Team, 2018: GISS Surface Temperature Analysis (GISTEMP). NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (dataset accessed 2018-04-11 at https://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/). This is the standard source used in most journalistic reporting of global average temperatures.
The 2016-18 Big Chill was composed of two Little Chills, the biggest five month drop ever (February to June 2016) and the fourth biggest (February to June 2017). A similar event from February to June 2018 would bring global average temperatures below the 1980s average. February 2018 was colder than February 1998.
To put this temperature drop in context, consider that this is enough to offset by more than half the entirety of the global warming the planet has experienced since the end of the 19th century.

The issue Ray alludes to is that in addition to the issue
of many more drifters providing measurements over the last
5-10 years, the measurements are coming in from places where
we didn’t have much ship data in the past. For much of the SH between 40 and 60S the normals are mostly made up as there is very little ship data there.
NOW it’s time to see how NASA GISS (Gavin Schmidt) and NOAA (Tom Karl) have created the ‘hockey-stick’ temperature rise over recent years in order to drive the Mann-made global warming agenda.

Winter storms have killed several people across Europe, including in Germany, reports DW.com.
While conditions have improved in some parts, meteorologists predict it’s just the calm before the next storm.

COLD ‘weather’ is killing more people than usual.
THE BBC reports :
Excess winter deaths in Wales almost doubled in 2017-18 – rising from 1,850 the year before to 3,400.
Public health experts said adverse weather and influenza were to blame for the increase, hitting older people in particular.
Experts said it was the highest number of excess deaths since the winter of 1975.
But officials said spikes in winter deaths were not uncommon – with eight peaks over the past 40 years.
Across England and Wales, there were 50,100 excess deaths last winter.
However, this is half the number of excess deaths recorded in the winter of 1950 – when there were 106,400 extra winter deaths.
ONE wonders if Harrabin thrives in the virtues of energy rationing without feeling bothered to mention the obvious negative effects of draconian climate change policies and symbolic gestures that fuel energy poverty, leading to a dramatic increase in winter-related deaths.
PERHAPS it’s because Harrabin can afford ‘green’ luxuries, unlike many of the silent majority, or the 1.3 billion people without any electricity at all.
