1800s Poverty Diseases, Malnutrition Surge in Green Britain

The Green dream – to send us all back into caves, becoming reality.

Watts Up With That?

Impoverished British Family in London 1800s Impoverished British Family in London 1800s

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

Falling living standards are contributing to a shocking surge in malnutrition, and diseases which were prevalent in the 1800s. My question – how much of this hardship is due to the skyrocketing cost of Britain’s green energy disaster?

According to the Independent;

Malnutrition and ‘Victorian’ diseases soaring in England ‘due to food poverty and cuts’

Cases of Victorian-era diseases including scurvy, scarlet fever, cholera and whooping cough have increased since 2010

Cases of malnutrition and other “Victorian” diseases are soaring in England, in what campaigners said was a result of cuts to social services and rising food poverty.

NHS statistics show that 7,366 people were admitted to hospital with a primary or secondary diagnosis of malnutrition between August 2014 and July this year, compared with 4,883 cases in the same period from 2010 to 2011 – a rise of…

The Decade When It Rained, And Rained, And Rained

The only difference between 1870’s and today being that today everyone has a mobile phone to record disaster, more people and property in harms way, and an alarmist media and corrupt scientific community filled with self-loathing and capitalist hatred citing colourless, odourless, trace gas and plant food ‘CO2’ as the enemy.

NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT

By Paul Homewood

According to the “experts”, global warming means higher rainfall for the UK. If so, it must have been mighty warm in the 1870’s!

NB There are five regions in the above HADUKP data, so only SW England & S Wales fails to appear with a record. This regional data only starts in 1873, so misses out on the record wet year of 1872, which almost certainly would have set more records.

Of course, there were no TV crews around in the 1870’s to spread their message of calamity. However, the Royal Windsor website has an interesting set of engravings and reports, collected from the Illustrated London News, of floods in the area in the 19thC. The full set is here, but these are the entries for the 1870’s:

I don’t suppose Disraeli blamed all this on CO2!

Devastating Yorkshire Floods – 1930

Climate-changes. Always has, always will.

NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT

By Paul Homewood

The Whitby lifeboat had to be called out for a flood two miles inland at Ruswarp in Yorkshire (pictured) on 23 July 1930 as the rising waters threatened Whitby and the surrounding areas. The Whitby Gazette called it “a thrilling rescue” amid gale-force winds. According to weather reporter Bill Foggit: “The awesome power of the flood was more than matched by the indomitable spirit of the Whitby lifeboat men. Up the raging Esk they came to rescue marooned families.” The floods left crops damaged, carried away sheep, and destroyed bridges.

The Telegraph has a series of pictures of wild “weather” events, (Incl earthquakes, for some reason!)

The above one particularly caught my eye, as it was in July 1930. This period was a particularly wet era. The four months from October 1929 to January 1930 were by far the wettest of any four months…

A Problem For Engineers To Solve

Real Science

Our energy future is too important to be left to people devoid of engineering skills, like Barack Obama, Michael Mann, Leonordo Di Caprio, Bette Midler and Katharine Hayhoe. Even climate hack James Hansen understands this.

“Suggesting that renewables will let us phase rapidly off fossil fuels in the United States, China, India, or the world as a whole is almost the equivalent of believing in the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy.”

I’m just back from skiing with the dogs. Temperatures here were -20C last night. Looking south, the wind turbines at NREL (National Renewable Energy Lab) are motionless. They are producing  0 watts of power.

Looking to the north, the Boulder coal fired power plant is keeping the city running. With harmless CO2 and H2O coming out of the stack, it is generating 186,000,000 watts. It generates this 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is not…

Hottest Year Ever

Real Science

Government climate experts say that 2015 is the hottest year ever. A couple of sure fire clues for this are the highest Arctic sea ice extent in over a decade, and the coldest January-March on record in the Northeast US.

Desperate Climate Alarmists Attack Skeptics

“Meanwhile, as satellites show no statistical warming for nearly two decades despite rising CO2 levels while overheated climate models have gone berserk…”

With inconvenient “science” and data wrecking the global warming theory, it’s no wonder climate alarmists have resorted to silencing the truth tellers, no matter how nefarious or brazen.

The only way for the alarmists not to lose is for them to silence the truthtellers

Larry-Bell_avatar-80x80By Larry Bell ~

President Obama wasted no crises on the occasion of the UN’s climate fear-fest earlier this month. Associating murderers of 129 people there two just weeks previously with agents of man-made global warming Armageddon, he observed that by fostering “dangerous” ideologies, climate change “in some ways is akin to the problem of terrorism and ISIL.”

He even hailed the conference as “a powerful rebuke of terrorists.”

bulliesThese dangerous culprits presumably include all who challenge the existence of any rational scientific basis for climate hysteria . . . along with disbelievers of pixie dust premises that planetary salvation demands replacing affordable, abundant, and reliable fossil energy with costly, puny, and intermittent windmills and sunbeams.

Even if the climate hadn’t warmed over 19 years prior to the run-up to that conference, feverish rhetoric…

HuffPo Writer: We Should Unplug Our Energy-Burning Christmas Decorations

Enviro-evangelists and the leftist media, wishing us back into the cave.

PA Pundits - International

TimGrahampicture-13-1409699701By Tim Graham ~

In the annual competition between leftist media outlets for the screwiest (or most Scrooge-like) criticism of Christmas traditions, a Huffingon Post item published Thursday morning by Michael McLaughlin (HT Breitbart) was a formidable entry.

After the HuffPo reporter’s headline noted that “U.S. Christmas Lights Burn More Energy Than Some Nations In A Year,” he suggested that “maybe we should unplug our decorations.”

Of course, that’s a ridiculous idea. Turning off Christmas lights here will do nothing to improve the situation in less developed countries (LDCs).

That said, McLaughlin inadvertently stumbled onto something when he found a researcher who criticized the developed world for attempting to dictate how LDCs should attempt to emerge from centuries of grinding poverty (link is in original; bolds are mine):

ChristmasLights2015… In an interview with NPR, researcher Todd Moss said that it’s a useful comparison because many developing countries face pressure to…
